Fran joined Makai Properties in 2005 and had a very successful first year working in real estate on Kauai. In 2006 Fran accomplished over $7 million in gross sales. In 2007, Fran earned the designation of ABR, Accredited Buyer Representative. The Accredited Buyer Representative (ABR) designation is the benchmark of excellence in buyer representation. This coveted designation is awarded to real estate practitioners by the Real Estate Buyer's Agent Council (REBAC) of the National Association of REALTORS who meet the specified educational and practical experience criteria.
In 2010, keeping up with the changes in the real estate market, Fran earned the National Association of Realtors designation as SFR, Short Sale and Foreclosure Recource agent. Fran has extensive experience in listing and selling both short sales and foreclosure properties over the past few years.
She has acted as REO listing agent for banks or their asset managers and understands the distressed sale process in detail. With this experience she has also assisted numerous buyers for short sale and foreclosure or REO/bank owned properties.
Fran brings past experience from working in real estate sales during the late 1980's in the Jacksonville Beaches area of Florida. She specialized in the Ponte Vedra /Sawgrass Resort & Country Club (home of the famous TPC Golf Course), as well as the North Beaches area and helped "break-ground" at the brand new development of Jacksonville Golf & County Club. This background has given Fran detailed knowledge in resort condo, home, and lot sales, as well as experience in working with builders and developers.
Fran is a former Navy wife who has settled on Kauai with her family after years of moving with her family wherever the Navy called her husband to serve. Her husband, Mark, or Mac, as he is known on the base and by close friends, was a US Navy helicopter pilot and a Commander at the Pacific Missile Range Facility/NAS Barking Sands in west Kauai. He retired from the Navy in 2004 after 22 years of active duty and is now working back out at the Navy base, PMRF, as a civilian helicopter pilot and airfield contractor.
Fran and her family settled in Kalaheo and Fran is now the Kalaheo Makai neighborhood real estate specialist. Working with Makai Properties was a natural fit for her since the company also specializes in residential and resort properties from Poipu to Kekaha. Fran has enjoyed helping both active duty and government contractors based at PMRF find a home on Kauai, neighbors wanting to sell their properties and numerous families looking for just the right home to raise their children. Fran has experience in the resort areas of Poipu as well, assisting visitors find their dream vacation home or condo in Poipu.
Having been stationed in Hawaii before, the McDonald family felt they had moved back home and decided that Kauai was their 'last move'. Natives of Florida, they and their children, Kelsey and Kyle, love the ocean and the spectacular outdoors of Kauai. Both Kelsey and Kyle have now graduated from Island School, a private school on Kauai located in Puhi. Kelsey has since graduated from Scripps Women's College in California and Kyle currently is attending his parents' alma mater, the University of Florida.
The entire family loves to paddle outrigger canoes, each one racing with competitive teams. Fran and Mark are active members of Kukui'ula Outrigger Canoe Club and Kauai Hoe Wa'a, the one-man canoe association. When not paddling canoes or stand up paddling, their favorite family outings include hiking the gorgeous mountains, camping on the beautiful beaches and scuba diving in the spectacular ocean of Kauai.
Fran is also a certified Pilates instructor and can be found teaching ocean view classes under the shade of a plumeria tree within the Poipu Kai Resort every Monday and Wednesday morning.
